Assembler 1: Operator Trainee

Job Summary:

The Assembler 1 receives on-the-job training and supervision to learn to assemble aerospace structural sections from parts, subassemblies, and components. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Under supervision, learns and performs the following:
    1. Install units, parts, equipment, and components in structural assembly, according to blueprints and specifications, using hand tools and power tools.
    2. Bolt, screw, or rivet accessories to fasten, support, or hang components and subassemblies.
    3. Drill holes in structure and subassemblies, and attaches brackets, hinges, or clips to secure installation or to fasten subassemblies.
    4. Locate and mark reference points and holes for installation of parts and components, using jigs, templates, and measuring instruments.
    5. Inspect and test installed units, parts, and equipment for fit, performance, and compliance with standards, using measuring instruments and test equipment.
    6. Position and aligns subassemblies in jigs or fixtures, using measuring instruments, following blueprint lines and index points.
    7. Cut, trim, and file parts, and verify fitting tolerances to prepare for installation.
    8. Install bushings using liquid nitrogen or presses as required.
    9. Apply sealants or paint per customer specifications using proper safety devices.
    10. Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using standard measuring tools as required.
    11. Read and interpret manufacturing drawings.
    12. Recognize production problems.
  2. Performs miscellaneous duties in the Assembly area as directed when supervisor is unavailable for training.
  3. Follows all safety guidelines established by the Company, including proper use of safety equipment and relevant safety procedures.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Attributes:

  1. Demonstrates a good attitude toward work and arrives on time for start of shift.
  2. Follows instructions and demonstrates strong attention to detail.
  3. Communicates well verbally and in writing.
  4. Mechanically inclined, with good manual dexterity.

Education, Skills and Experience:

          Preferred:

  • Ability to perform basic functions with MS Windows-based computer operating systems, such as opening and closing files.

Physical Demands:

  • Lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Standing, sitting and walking throughout the workday. 
  • Use of computer keyboard and mouse.

Work Environment:

  1. The Assembler 1 works in the machine shop environment throughout the workday; this environment may include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vapor from coolant, etc.
  2. Possible skin and inhaled contact may occur with various sealants, paints, adhesives, liquid nitrogen, MEK, and chemicals used to run CNC machines or clean manufactured parts.
  3. Industry standard safety equipment is provided by the Company, and specific notice is posted in areas where safety equipment is required. 
  4.  Safety training is required and provided by the Company in accordance with applicable law, industry standards, and Company policy.
