Pay Grade/Range: $10.50/hr min.- $13.00/hr DOE

Job Summary:

The Assembly Mechanic receives on-the-job training and supervision to learn to assemble aerospace structural sections from parts, subassemblies, and components.

Duties and Responsibilities:     

  • Under close supervision, learns and performs the following:
    1. Install units, parts, equipment, and components in structural assembly, according to blueprints and specifications, using hand tools and power tools.
      • Bolt, screw, or rivet accessories to fasten, support, or hang components and subassemblies.
    1. Drill holes in structure and subassemblies, and attaches brackets, hinges, or clips to secure installation or to fasten subassemblies. Locate and mark reference points and holes for installation of parts and components, using jigs, templates, and measuring instruments. Inspect and test installed units, parts, and equipment for fit, performance, and compliance with standards, using measuring instruments and test equipment. Position and aligns subassemblies in jigs or fixtures, using measuring instruments, following blueprint lines and index points. Cut, trim, and file parts, and verify fitting tolerances to prepare for installation. Install bushings using liquid nitrogen or presses as required.
    2. Apply sealants or paint per customer specifications using proper safety devices.
    • Uses shop equipment needed to complete operations, such as C-squeeze, arbor presses, ground stud puller, cherry pullers, and shop hand tools.
    1. Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using standard measuring tools as required. Read and interpret manufacturing drawings at basic level.
    2. Recognize production problems.
  1. Performs miscellaneous duties in the Assembly area as directed when supervisor is unavailable for training. Follows all safety guidelines established by the Company, including proper use of safety equipment and relevant safety procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
  2. Follows 5-S procedures & works in organized manner.

Education, Skills and Experience:

              Preferred:

  1. Basic shop math skills.
  2. Ability to read and follow work instructions.

Physical Demands:

  1. Lifting up to 40 pounds.
  2. Standing, sitting and walking throughout the workday. 
  3. Correctable vision that allows employee to perform accurate assembly work

Work Environment:

  1. The Assembler Mechanic works in the Assembly environment throughout the workday; this environment may include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, etc.
  2. Possible skin and inhaled contact may occur with various sealants, paints, adhesives, liquid nitrogen, MEK, and chemicals used during assembly or cleaning of parts.
  3. Industry standard safety equipment is provided by the Company, and specific notice is posted in areas where safety equipment is required. 
  4. Safety training is required and provided by the Company in accordance with applicable law, industry standards, and Company policy.
