Reports to: Shipping Manager

Pay Grade/Range: $10.25/hr max

Job Summary:

The Shipping Assistant is responsible for the daily support of the Shipping and Receiving Department activities and personnel.  The functions are varied and typically “entry level” in complexity and scope.  Specific duties can include tasks that are within the responsibilities of the Materials and/or Purchasing Assistant.  This individual will be trained in understanding most duties and functions within the Shipping Department, and will act as a backup to many specific positions and departmental duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:     

  • Assembles kits.
  • Closes Manufacturing Orders (MOs).
  • Picks, packs and ships Finished Goods (FGI).
  • Receives shipments of incoming materials.
  • Prepares Packslips and Certifications.
  • Part marks and packages outgoing product.
  • Generates and/or distributes miscellaneous reports.
  • Supports Management as directed.
  • Provides backup for Materials Assistant, Purchasing Assistant, and many other positions within the Materials Department.
  • May create MS Word and Excel documents and spreadsheets for Materials staff.
  • Performs data entry.
  • Files Materials Department documents.
  • Follows all safety guidelines established by the Company, including proper use of safety equipment and relevant safety procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  2. Ability to adhere to a flexible and demanding schedule that may result in short days, short-notice unscheduled overtime, or additional weekend shifts.
  3. Good verbal and written communication skills.

Education, Skills and Experience:

              Required:

  1. Familiar with Word, Excel, and keyboarding.
  2. Passing score on AMT Basic Math Test.
  3. Experience in the use of hand and power tools such as hammer, drills, nail and staple guns, etc.
  4. High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:

  1. Proficient in Word, Excel and keyboarding. 
  2. Approved training in forklift operation. 
  3. High school diploma.

Physical Demands:

  1. Standing, sitting and walking throughout the work day. 
  2. Lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds.
  3. Use of computer keyboard, mouse and multiline phone throughout the work day. 
  4. Ability to operate a forklift

Work Environment:

  1. The Shipping Assistant is required to enter the warehouse and/or machine shop environment at times throughout the work day; this environment may include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vapor from coolant, etc.
  2. Industry standard safety equipment is provided by the Company, and specific notice is posted in areas where safety equipment is required. 
  3. Safety training is required and provided by the Company in accordance with applicable law, industry standards, and Company policy.
  4. Possible skin and inhaled contact with various sealants, paints, adhesives, and other chemicals may occur.
